PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method by which good developing property is obtd. without producing contamination on a sleeve even for long-term use. SOLUTION: This image forming method includes a latent image forming process to form an electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic latent image holding body, and a developing process to develop the electrostatic latent image with a single component developer containing a magnetic toner carried on and transferred by the surface of a developer carrying body. The developer carrying body consists of at least a base body and a resin coating layer. The resin coating layer contains at least a binder resin and a quaternary ammonium salt compd. A magnetic material in the magnetic toner is magnetic iron oxide. The magnetic material contains a specified amt. of element α in the third or the succeeding periods in the long-period periodical table and having 1.0 to 2.5 electronegativity. The magnetic material contains magnetic iron oxide particles which are polyhedral with planes on the ridges of hexahedrons, contains magnetic iron oxide particles which are polyhedral with planes on the ridges of octahedrons, and contains dinuclear magnetic iron oxide particles, in total >=60% in the number of pieced.
