PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid cold storage device which can inexpensively, efficiently and effectively store a wide range of cold heat without exerting any harmful influence upon the environment and a method for operating the device. SOLUTION: This solid cold storage device is provided with a cold storing material container 2, a cold storing medium 4 charged in the container 2, and a cooling means 1 which solidifies the medium 4 by cooling and stores the cold heat energy stored in the medium 4 when the medium 4 is solidified by cooling. When solidifying the medium 4 by cooling, a prescribed amount of the fluid cold storing medium 4 is supplied while the cooling means 1 is operated and, after the supplied medium 4 is solidified, another prescribed amount of the medium 4 is added to the top of the solidified medium 4 and the added medium 4 is successively solidified by cooling from the bottom side. |
