PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image signals from being degraded by electromagnetic wave noise in constitution provided with a substrate loaded with an image sensor for reading an original and the substrate loaded with a circuit for processing image signals read by the image sensor. SOLUTION: The image sensor 9 and a drive signal generation circuit 21 are loaded on a sensor substrate 10 and the circuits 22-27 for processing the image signals read by the image sensor 9 are loaded on a signal processing substrate 12. Only synchronizing signals TR required for generating image sensor drive signals are transmitted from the signal processing substrate 12 to the sensor substrate 10 and the drive signal generation circuit 21 on the side of the sensor substrate 10 generates the image sensor drive signals.
