PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera whose operability is improved while suppressing a current consumption, and which is equipped with a liquid crystal display device in a finder. SOLUTION: The camera is provided with the liquid crystal display device 102 arranged in the finder 101 and whose transmissivity is made variable, a figure detecting means 103 for detecting whether or not the user holds the camera, and a control means 104 for controlling the operation of the liquid crystal display device 102 based on the output of the figure detecting means 103. The drive of the liquid crystal display device 102 is started by the control means 104 when a detection signal indicating that the figure is detected is outputted by the figure detecting means 103 and received by the means 104, and contrarily, the drive of the liquid crystal display device 102 is stopped when the figure is not detected.
