A vapor sensing device that is small and lightweight enough to be handheld, yet also modular so as to allow such device to conveniently adapted for use in sensing the presence and concentration of a wide variety of specified vapors. These benefits are provided by using a sensor module that's incorporates a sample chamber and multiple sensors located on a chip that's releasably carried within or adjacent to same sample chamber. Optionally, the sensor module can be configured to be releasably plugged into a receptacle formed in the device. Vapors are directed to pass through the sample chamber, whereupon the sensors provide a distinct combination of electrical signals in response to each component. The sensors of the sensor module produce have gas concentration dependent and identify dependent outputs supplied to an analog-to-digital converter to produce digital signals that are appropriately analyzed for vapor identification. The device can then subsequently transmit such digital signals through a communication interface and docking station for travel over a computer network, such as the Internet or Local Area Network for analysis at remote locations via computer program product with corresponding code used for each step of data acquiring, transmitting, receiving and/or processing.
|
