PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch for selective radio call receiver excellent in reliability and durability and capable of being operated without the need for an external device, and to provide the method for detecting the state of the optical switch. SOLUTION: This method includes a step S10 where a signal is response to an operating state of an optical switch is received from this optical switch, a step S11 where a time for an on-state of the optical switch is detected on the basis of a signal from the optical switch and whether or not the on-state of the optical switch is consecutive over a prescribed time is discriminated, a step S12 where a prescribed request is given to a user in the case that the optical switch is turned on for a prescribed time, a step S13 where whether or not a prescribed request is satisfied within a prescribed period after the prescribed request is raised is discriminated, and a step S14 where the operation by the optical switch is validated when the prescribed request is satisfied within a prescribed period.
