PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of a false color on an edge part by calculating the quantity of interpolation by a weighted addition of color information of little points existing on plural directions pointing from a vacant lattice point of interest to be interpolated as a start point to near-by lattice points based on the strength of similarity in the plural directions. SOLUTION: An optical image acquired by a photographing optical system 12 is applied to an image pickup part 13 and quantized by an image processing part 15 as the picture data of the color image and the picture data supplied to the image processing part 15 are interpolated by an interpolation processing part 17 and recorded through a recording part 16. The processing part 17 calculates the vertical and horizontal similarity of the vacant lattice point of interest and judges a direction having higher similarity. The quantity of interpolation is calculated by using the color information of two lattice points adjacent to the direction having higher similarity with the vacant lattice point of interest by the weighted addition of color information of respective lattice points. Consequently a false color generated on an edge part can be surely reduced.
