PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make maintanable the compatibility of external character fonts incorporated in a document with an external character used between devices having different external character specifications by converting the external character font incorporated in the document with the external character acquired from an external device having the different external character specification matched with a self equipment external character specification, re- converting it matching with the external character specification of the external device having the further separate different external character specification and outputting it. SOLUTION: Another device kind document 201 and another device kind external character 204 inputted from another device kind are inputted to a RAM as one file or separate files. In such a case, another device kind first/second level font 207 has no problem if it is a type code described on another device kind document 201 since font information 208 is stored in the RAM. Another device kind external character 204 is made a usable state after it is conversion retouched temporarily to a dot image of an external character group D of a device external character 205. In such a manner, when another device kind 204 is fetched, is displaced to the device external character 205, third/fourth level font code 209, and becomes usable by this device.
