PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming method excellent in unevenness in exposure density, particularly unevenness in back-and-forth writing caused by scanning exposure using plural light sources for exposure. SOLUTION: A photosensitive material containing at least a photosensitive silver halide emulsion, a hydrophilic binder, a slightly water-soluble basic metallic compound and a compound which forms or releases a diffusible dye by reaction with the oxidized body of a compound of the formula on the substrate are exposed with an exposure head with plural light sources, each of which emits light in a specified wavelength range in correspondence to adjacent exposure pixels. The wavelength range is from the shortest wavelength of the plural light sources to the longest wavelength and the variation of the sensitivity of the photosensitive material in the wavelength range is <=0.01 logE/nm.
