PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive optical circulator in which the optical device part can be easily produced in a small size. SOLUTION: This circulator consists of a combination of at least a birefringence device and parallel plate optical devices including nonreciprocal polarization plane rotators 7, 8, and has a plurality of ports for entering and outgoing light. The circulator is produced by successively disposing along the propagation direction of light, a birefringent crystal 1 as a birefringence device, nonreciprocal polarization plane rotator 7, birefringent crystal 2, a pair of birefringent crystals 3, 4 as a birefringence device which is divided into two halves with respect to the propagation direction of light and then joined into a single element with the separation direction of polarized light opposite to each other, birefringent crystal 5, nonreciprocal polarization plane rotor 8, and birefringent crystal 6.
