The linkage has two links (10,11) articulated on the bodywork and on the hood and form a deformable quadrilateral. The hood is liftable from a lower closed position to one of two stable open positions, respectively central and upper. One of the links is a rigid link and the other is a telescopic balancer (11) which assists the lifting of the hood beyond the central position to where it attains its maximum extension. Two stops (19,20) fixed to the bodywork are provided to hold the rigid link in a first p[position where the hood can pivot between the lower and central positions and a second position where the hood is held in an upper position.
