The sealing system for a shaft (2), at an assembly for the preparation of paper fiber suspensions, has a seal housing around it with at least two sealing rings (3,3',4) which mainly bridge the radial gap between the housing and the shaft (2). The free radial gap extends axially between adjacent sealing rings (3,3',4) which can be filled with a viscous sealing or lubricating mass (M) while the assembly is working. The mass (M) is a lubricating grease, which is not used for the lubrication of the roller or sliding bearings. The amount of grease mass (M) fed into the sealing is adjustable on a time basis, using an automatic dosing system to force the sealing/lubricating mass (M) through a channel (6) into the sealing zone from a grease supply point, in vols. set by time. The sealing ring (4) closest to the paper fiber suspension, as a lip seal with grooves (13), forms a sealing gap (5') against the shaft with a gap width (a) of 0.1-2.0 mm, and at least one further sealing ring (3,3'), as at least one lip seal, is in contact with the shaft (2). Pref. all the sealing rings (3,3',4) are lip seals. Neighboring sealing rings (3,3',4) are separated axially from each other by at least one distance ring (7). A ring zone is free between the distance ring (7) and the shaft (2) to hold the sealing or lubricating mass (M). The sealing structure is a coherent component unit to be mounted in position.
