The mechanism to doff bobbins at a spinning assembly, with a number of bobbin winding stations, has a moving yarn transfer unit (5) suspended from a guide rail (9) over the service passage. The yarn transfer unit (5) is supplied with power through a connection to a flexible energy chain (11), at the guide rail (9) over the service passage. The doffer (15) or the yarn transfer unit (5) has a collision sensor (22), which generates a signal when there is a min. gap between the doffer (15) and the yarn transfer unit (5). The sensor (22) is connected to the control unit (21) which, on receipt of a sensor signal, stops the doffing action. The collision sensor (22) at the doffer (15) has a transmitter and a receiver, and a reflector (14) is at the yarn transfer unit (5), which forms a signal chain when there is a min. gap between the doffer (15) and the yarn transfer unit (5). The yarn transfer unit (5) is operated manually, to be moved by hand along the guide rail (9) over the service passage. The yarn transfer unit (5) has a container (6) for yarn waste and a suction gun (7). The waste container (6) is linked to a compressed air supply.(13) through the energy chain (11) at the guide rail (9). The energy chain (11) is composed of links and a flexible compressed air hose, which rides in the channel formed by the chain links.
