The stacked plates (10) are spaced by their shape or form (38,40,42,44,46,48) made up of knobs or pleating arranged in certain areas and the fluid path reaches 0.1-2 mm in height over a width of 3-20 mm. The plates are 0.03-0.3 mm thick and stand at 90 deg to one another and are raised in knob or pleat form on different sides. The knobs are in rows on the heat transfer area, row knobs set on a common axis so as to make up successively knobbed and plain sectors. The knobs come in oval shape, with rows of knobs per plate parallel to flow and to one another. The inlet and outlet openings are ringed by pleats (38,40,42,44) rising on different sides of the plate on opposing inlet and outlet openings.
