An electric adjustment drive is controlled by a controller (3) that includes a computer. The computer is programmed with a program which combines different setting values in a fixed order. The setting values in the computer can be changed by a user prompt system. The user prompts are given visually on a screen, or acoustically using a speech emitter and a speech recognition system. The computer and the program may take account of user-specific characteristic data which may be detected by sensors on the vehicle seat.
