A composite body comprising metal foam and solid parts (2, 3) joined together by a metallurgical bond of fused adjoining material layers (4a, 5a) is new. A composite body comprises metal foam and solid parts (2, 3) joined together along adjoining joint faces (4, 5).The solid part (3) is produced from a solid substrate material of melting temperature at least as high as the foaming temperature of the metal foam material, and the joint faces (4, 5) are joined together by a metallurgical bond of fused adjoining material layers (4a, 5a). An Independent claim is also included for production of the above composite body. Preferred Features: The metal foam consists of foamed aluminum and the solid metal consists of solid aluminum.
