The light sources, such as LEDs (19) or laser diodes (LDs) of colored, especially blue light emission, have allocated a light surface (1,3). They are of long service life with an allocated agent for conversion of the emitted light to a white or whitish light. Preferably the light conversion agent is distributed in a translucent or transparent material, typically in the form of light conversion particles embedded in suitable material e.g. plastics. Phosphor particles are used, are separated from the diodes and associated with the light surface.
