The invention relates to a transmission/engine control system (1) intended for a motor vehicle with automatic transmission (2) and comprising a warning device (3) for indicating a malfunction in the transmission of a signal from an electric position detection device (4) of a selector lever (5) to control means of the automatic transmission via an electronic transmission control system. To indicate that no change in the direction of travel is possible the warning device (3) comprises a program module of a transmission-independent computing unit (6). In case of a malfunction of the signal transmission when the automatic transmission (2) operates in emergency operating mode and on detection of a vehicle speed which is lower than a threshold value said computing unit transmits a maximum authorized engine torque and/or maximum authorized engine speed and/or maximum authorized vehicle speed to a program module of an engine control system (7). Alternatively, the computing unit can transmit a signal for actuating a vehicle brake to a program module of a vehicle brake control unit (10) or by means of blocking device (12) block the selector lever (5) in its current position. Alternatively, or additionally, the computing unit can generate a signal for the driver by means of an optical or acoustic indicator device. |
