At a transfer point (10) with a suction roller (14) for a moving paper or cardboard web (12), where it is detached from one continuous blanket (18) to be carried onwards by a further continuous blanket (16), a steam blower box (20) assists the web transfer action. The blower box (20) is moved between a working position, where the blower opening (22) extends into exit side of the gap between the two blankets (16,18), and at least one different setting. The pick-up blanket (16) passes round the suction roller (14) in front of the lower deflection roller (28) for the lower blanket (18), in the direction (L) of web travel, before the lower blanket (18) is detached from the web (12). The steam blower box (20), in the working position, directs blown streams at the web (12) in the transfer position between the two blankets (16,18), or it is parked in a ready position. The steam blower box (20) is mounted to a swing frame (30), moved by a piston/cylinder unit (32). The blower box (20) has a sliding movement on the swing frame (30), moved pref. along it by a further piston/cylinder unit (34). In the working position, the blower opening (22) of the steam blower box (20) is positioned at the gap (24) between the two blankets (16,18) as they separate. In the inactive, ready position, the blower opening (22) is withdrawn from the gap (24) between the separated blankets (16,18). The swing frame (30) is locked (34) in the working position, using at least one locking bolt (36). The frame (30) swings on a frame (40) mounted on the foundation (38). The working of the steam blower box (20) is set to adjust the lateral moisture profile of the web (12).
