A shootbolt assembly 1 comprising a drive mechanism 3 and an actuating rod 5, wherein the actuating rod 5 includes a plurality of weakened regions 35 at predetermined intervals along the rod 5 such that the rod 5 can be broken to a desired length during installation of the shootbolt assembly 1. In this way, the assembly can be readily applied to vents of different sizes without the need for a large range of actuating rods of different lengths.
