PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an increase in a communication load more than necessary even when a plurality of controllers are existed by limiting an engine controller and a communication based on data stored in a retarder controller in the communication for a status confirmation request from a print controller. SOLUTION: When a copy start key on an operation unit is input, a reader controller 901 closes a gate 2207 and a signal controller 2208 to a copy mode, and sets to select an output of an image processor 902 by a selector 2201. Then, an I/O port 2203 is used to check a ready state/PRDY of a printer to an engine controller, and then various sets are conducted by using a serial communication controller 2202. First, a command for designating a feeding stage of a recording sheet is issued, and a command for requesting a recording sheet size in designated cassette is issued. These commands return a status corresponding to the engine controller.
