PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive and environment-friendly box by applying water-resistant treatment on a box or a box member comprising a low density substance with a specific density or less which is obtained by dehydrating slurry including a composition with Canada standard freeness of a specific value or higher mainly comprising a cellulose fiber by using a mesh and then drying. SOLUTION: Slurry comprising a composition with Canada standard freeness of 550 ml or more mainly consisting of a cellulose fiber is dehydrated by using a mesh and then dried, and a box or a box member made of the resulted low density substance with a density of 0.25 g/cm3 or less is subjected to water- resistant treatment. Among other things, a substance which is obtained by processing under compression conditions that a thickness of the dried low density substance may be 50% or more of the thickness of a wetted low density substance obtained by dehydrating the slurry without pressure applied is preferable. Thus a water-resistant box or box member which is environment-friendly, inexpensive and excellent in heat and cold insulation can be obtained.
