PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fractionate dibutenes to an n-octene-containing fraction and a dimethylhexene-containing fraction having iso-index less than a specific value and over a specified value, respectively. SOLUTION: Dibutenes are fractionated to an n-octene-containing fraction having <90% iso-index of that of the original dibutenes and a dimethylhexene- containing fraction having iso-index of >110%. The fractionation of the dibutenes is preferably carried out by a continuous distillation at a normal pressure. By the method, the n-octane-containing fraction is preferably obtained as a bottom product having 110-126 deg.C boiling point under the normal pressure, and the dimethylhexene-containing fraction is preferably obtained as a top product having 95-120 deg.C boiling point.
