ENGINE SPEED INDICATOR FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH VARIABLE VALVE SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine speed indicator for an internal combustion engine with a variable valve system capable of enabling an operator to precisely recognize an excessive engine speed region according to the current state even if the excessive engine speed region of an engine is changed according to a cam selected state of the variable valve system in the internal combustion engine provided with the variable valve system. SOLUTION: A variable valve system comprising a cam switch mechanism 40 and a hydraulic selector valve 31 selectively switches a cam for driving to open or close an engine valve under control of an electronic controller 20. The electronic controller 20 prohibits a cam switching operation of the variable valve system and changes the range of an engine speed within which fuel is cut to avid excessive rotation of an engine during cold operation. Red zones 12, 13 divided according to the prohibition and allowance of the cam switching operation are displayed on a scale of an engine speed indicator 10 for indicating the engine speed. An indicator lamp 14 to be lighted in the case of the allowance of the cam switching operation near the engine speed indicator 10.
