PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance printing quality due to a printer engine for binary output and to increase a processing speed. SOLUTION: In a printer controller (printer control device) 20, the image data sent from a host computer 1 is imagewise developed as multivalue data in a printable manner in a printer engine 10 and the imagewise developed multivalue image data is temporarily stored in an RAM 6 and the operation of a video DMA is started by a DMA controller 7. The DMA controller 7 starts the operation of the video DMA to allow a gradation decoder 21 to read the multivalue data stored in the RAM 6. The gradation decoder 21 converts the read multivalue image data to a resolution higher than that at a time of imagewise development to output the same to the printer engine as binary data through an engine I/F 8.
