PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly safe glycosidase inhibitor derived from natural matter and having potent α-glucosidase activity inhibitory effect and α-amylase activity inhibitory effect by including a specific hibiscus acid compound. SOLUTION: This glycosidase inhibitor contains e.g. 0.01-30, pref. 0.1-20 w/w% of a hibiscus acid compound of the formula [R is H or a (substituted) alkyl] (specifically, hibiscus acid, hibiscus acid methyl ester, hibiscus acid ethyl ester, or the like), wherein the hibiscus acid compound is pref. an extract obtained by subjecting a plant belonging to the genus Hibiscus, Malvaceae (e.g. Hibiscus sabdariffa L., Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) to extraction with a hydrophilic solvent (e.g. water, methanol, a mixture thereof). The daily dose of this inhibitor is, for example, normally 1-5,000, pref, 10-1,000 mg/adult or so, in terms of the hibiscus acid compound. |
