PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrosensitive working medium almost incombustible because of containing a specific halogen atom, especially a fluorine-containing compound, free from risk of ignition caused by a spark between electrodes or the like, having an electroconductivity and a surface tension each within a specific range and capable of effectively forming a moving flow of the electrosensitive working medium and to provide a method for its use. SOLUTION: There is provided a homogeneous electrosensitive working medium containing at least one liquid organic compound containing at least three halogen atoms, fluorine atoms in particular in its molecule, which has an electroconductivity of 4×10-10-5×10-6 S/m at an actuating environment temperature and a surface tension of 22 dyn/cm or less at an actuating environment temperature. This homogeneous electrosensitive working medium is flame retardant or incombustible. The formation of a nonuniform electric field in this electrosensitive working medium generates a moving flow of the medium between electrodes, and this moving flow can be utilized for ECF motors, pumps, cleaning apparatus and the like. |
