PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert assembly provided with a chip breaker and crushing a cut metal. SOLUTION: The cutting insert assembly is provided with a holder 90 including a pocket 96; and a cutting insert 98 having a lake surface 100. The cutting insert 98 has a cutting edge 104 accommodated in a pocket. The cutting insert assembly is provided with a chip breaker 110 including a flat plate part 120 having a bottom surface 122. The chip breaker 110 is mounted to the cutting insert 98 such that the flat plate part 120 is upwardly left from a lake surface 100 of the cutting insert 98 by a predetermined distance D.
