PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make engagement noises as small as possible, generated between a chain and a sprocket. SOLUTION: This chain 1 is composed by connecting plural plates 2, 3 with pins, each having a pair of outer flanks respectively seating on tooth surfaces of a sprocket 7 at the time of perfect engagement with the tooth surfaces and a pair of arcuately bulged inner flanks interfering with the tooth surfaces at the beginning of the engagement with the tooth surfaces of the sprocket 7. Plural kinds of plate groups having different outer flank outlines from each other such that engaging positions with the sprocket tooth surfaces vary in the sprocket radial direction between the plate groups are mixed in the longitudinal direction of the chain 1.
