PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expandable flame resistant phenolic resin compsn. having little secular change, incombustible when exposed to a high temp. in case of fire, etc., and showing high heat insulation effect. SOLUTION: This phenolic resin composite contains not less than 10 pts.wt. but not more than 40 pts.wt. blowing agent in 100 pts.wt. cured phenolic resin which is obtd. from phenol and a kind of phenols whose at least one of ortho or para position is substituted by an electron donor group, as materials. The ratio of the number of benzene rings from the phenol to that from a phenol whose at least one of ortho or para position is substituted by an electron donor group is 10:1-10:40. And the electron group is a 1-15C alkyl group.
