PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a curable composition for a coating material which can form a coating film having excellent acid resistance, scratch resistance, and weathering resistance by including a resin component with a hydrolyzable-silyl- containing vinyl copolymer and a silicon compound or a condensate of a partial hydrolyzate thereof. SOLUTION: This composition contains (A) a resin obtained from a resin obtained by mixing an epoxy-containing compound component with a carboxyl- containing compound component and a vinyl copolymer having epoxy groups and carboxyl groups, (B) a vinyl copolymer having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group represented by formula I in the main chain or side chain of a molecule, and (C) a silicon compound represented by formula II or a condensate of a partial hydrolyzate thereof. This composition is prepared by compounding 100 pts.wt. component A with 1-100 pts.wt. component B, and 1-100 pts.wt. component C and, further, 0.001-10 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. total of components A, B and C, curing catalyst. In the formula, R1 is hydrogen or a 1-10C alkyl; R2 to R4 are each hydrogen, a 1-10C alkyl, a 6-10C aryl or the like; and a and b are each 0-2.
