PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording paper detecting device that can accurately detect an end of recording paper even when partially printed or colored recording paper or recording paper with low reflectance color is attached, and an ink jet recording method and an ink jet recording device that can restrain degradation of image quality caused by a connecting stripe on a boundary between bands. SOLUTION: Reflectors 28, 29 are mounted to a fixing lever 23 and a moving lever 24. The reflectors 28, 29 are preferably higher than 90% in light reflectance. The reflector 28 is mounted to the fixing lever 23 so that when recording paper 20 is attached its right edge just fits to the left end of the recording paper. The reflector 29 is mounted to the moving lever 24 so that its left edge fits to the right end of the recording paper.
