PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester fiber which consists mainly of polytrimethylene terephthalate and has excellent flexibility and good wound appearance. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyester fiber comprises melting and spinning a polyester consisting mainly of polytrimethylene terephthalate from a spinneret, continuously drawing the formed fiber without winding up the fiber, and then winding up the fiber. Therein, the fiber is thermally treated on a final drawing roller 2 and then wound on so that the elongation and the twist-releasing rate of the wound fiber are >=40% and 0.2-1.5%, respectively.
