PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit high speed printing while suppressing a damping phenomenon. SOLUTION: Printing data received from an external machinery is investigated to judge whether the first figure and the final 136-th figure positioned at both ends among total 136 figures of the full span of one line scheduled to be printed next are included within a printing range (Step S3). When there is no printing character in the first figure or the final 136-th figure (N of Step S3), a carrier is slowed up to a constant speed being a speed higher than the case of a usual mode (high speed mode) (Step S4). When there is a printing character in the first figure or the final 136-th figure in the Step S3 (Y of Step S3), the carrier is slowed up to a constant speed being a speed lower than the case of the high speed mode (usual mode) (Step S6). Printing is started after the carrier reaches the constant speed in the high speed mode to the usual mode (Step S9).
