PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable ink flying even with a low electric field strength as well as to provide a constant ink flying amount. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises an ink carrying roller 30 with minute recess parts 40 on the outer peripheral surface facing a photosensitive drum filled with a conductive ink. A predetermined voltage with a polarity different from that of an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive drum is applied on the inner surface of the recess parts 40. A small hole 42 allowing passage of only air is provided on the bottom wall of the recess parts 40.
