PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hot-rolling mill lubricant which is effective in preventing the seizure on rolls during hot rolling a material (e.g. steel) liable to cause seizure and which enables the production of a high-quality rolled product by compounding at least one polyalkyl (meth)acrylate compound with a polysulfide compound. SOLUTION: This hot-rolling mill lubricant comprises 1-50 wt.% at least one compound selected from the group consisting of polyalkyl methacrylate compounds and polyalkyl acrylate compounds and 50-99 wt.% polysulfide compound. The sum of contents of pentasulfide compounds and tetrasulfide compounds in the polysulfide compound is preferably 50 wt.% or higher in terms of obtaining a sufficient seizure prevention effect. The mill lubricant is applied or sprayed to at least either the surface of rolls or the surface of a material to be rolled to prevent the seizure of the material on the roll surface.
