PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying device capable of suppressing a hydrocarbon discharge amount by controlling an air/fuel ratio of gaseous mixture to the leaner side than the theoretical air/fuel ratio and also capable of keeping good exhaust gas characteristics without increasing a NOx discharge amount in the case when hydrocarbon is released from a adsorption catalyst arranged at an exhaust system. SOLUTION: A just-under ternary catalyst 14, an underfloor ternary catalyst 15 and the adsorption catalyst 16 are arranged in an exhaust pipe 13. Ceria having an oxide storing capacity is added to these catalysts, and an adding ratio of the ceria to the ternary catalysts 14 and 15 is larger than that of the adsorption catalyst 16.
