PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to assure a good environment without the drifting of smells at the time of feeding of garbage by providing the fermentation tank of a garbage treating machine having an exhaust means for exhausting the waste gases generated at the time of fermentation with a means for detecting the opening and closing of the cap of the fermentation tank and forcibly operating the exhaust means when the cap is opened. SOLUTION: This garbage treating machine accelerates composting by feeding the garbage and side materials, such as fermentation bacteria, into the fermentation tank 1, maintaining the crude refuse in the fermentation tank 1 at the environment suitable for fermentation decomposition by the temperature control in the fermentation tank 1 by a heater for the fermentation tank 1, the blasting by an exhaust fan 21 and the adjustment of the moisture content and subjecting the contents to a decomposition treatment by driving an agitating pawl shaft in forward and backward directions by the driving of a motor. When the feeding cap 12 is opened in this case, a make and break switch 83 turns on and the heater and hot catalyst of a deodorizing device are heated and an exhauster fan is turned on. When the switching cap is forcibly closed by means of a wire 91 and arm, the exhaust wind is sent to a deodorizing device side.
