PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling the track servo of an optical disk apparatus are provided to achieve a stable tracking servo by equalizing tracking servo signals of different sizes detected in a recorded domain and an unrecorded domain. CONSTITUTION: As a gain value of a gain adjustment amplifier is adjusted by a controller according to a recorded domain and an unrecorded domain, the size of a tracking error signal(TE2) supplied to a servo filter from the gain adjustment amplifier has an identical reference size, regardless of the recorded domain and the unrecorded domain. Accordingly, when an optical pickup records information after moving to a write position(b) from a read position(a) through a plurality of recorded and unrecorded domains, it is possible to reduce a seek speed for a target track as well as to execute a stable tracking servo, even though a defect domain exists in the recorded or unrecorded domains.
