PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polysilane containing an olefinic unsaturated group in its side chain, useful as a electric conductive material, non-linear optical material, etc., by performing the Wurtz's reaction of a specific halosilane, etc., with an alkali metal in the presence of an electron transfer reactant capable of forming a stable radical anionic species. SOLUTION: This polysilane of formula VI [(a) to (e) are each a compositional ratio, and are each 0 or a positive number; (p) is 4-10,000] is obtained by reacting at least one kind of a polysilane selected from a dihalosilane and a trihalosilane containing an olefinic unsaturated group of formulae I and II [R1 is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon; R2 to R7 are each H or a monovalent hydrocarbon not having an aliphatic unsaturated bond; X is a halogen; (n), (m) are each 0 or a positive integer], or a halosilane mixture of the above halosilane with at least one kind selected from a dihalosilane, trihalosilane and tetrahalosilane of formulae III to V (R8 to R10 are each H or a monovalent hydrocarbon not having an aliphatic unsaturated bond) with an alkali metal.
