PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phosphate in a high yield by reacting an oxychlorinated phosphorus with bisphenol A in the presence of a metal halide catalyst and then by reacting a phenol, and by specifying both the content of a hydrophilic phosphate monomer in the ester of the reaction product and the viscosity of the ester in washing, or the like. SOLUTION: This method comprises the following processes: (A) reacting an oxychlorinated phosphorus with bisphenol A in the presence of a metal halide catalyst and then reacting a monohydric phenol; (B) mixing the reaction product with acidic water showing the pH value of <=3 and extracting a mineral content into an aqueous phase to be separated/removed so as for the content of a hydrophilic phosphate monomer in the ester to be 0.01-1 wt.%; (C) separating/removing the acid component together with the aqueous phase. In the processes B and C, agitation is carried out at 0.2-2.0 kW/m3/(the unit volume of charge stock) agitation power under a heating condition so as for the viscosity of the phosphate to become 10-1,000 cP and the total residence time in the processes B and C is set being <=24 h. to obtain a compound of the formula [wherein, (n) is 1-10; Ar1-Ar4 are each a monovalent aromatic group].
