PURPOSE: A shift lever system of an automatic transmission is provided to elevate the utilization efficiency of a central console and the convenience of using a shift for a driver by minimizing the actuating strokes of a shift lever with the operation pattern of the shift lever in the pattern of 'U'. CONSTITUTION: A basic range conversion among the ranges of 'P', 'R', 'N' and 'D' is performed in a first gate. A travel manual conversion of the ranges of '3', '2' and 'L' is performed in a second gate. In the first gate, a shift lever(2) is placed between the branches of a first connecting member(30). If the shift lever is pulled rearward, a shift cable(34) is pulled up according to the order of the ranges. Thereby, a range conversion is performed. |
