PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and accurately correct image record positions in a main scanning direction and a sub scanning direction in a printer which forms images by the main scanning as a right-left reciprocation of a recording head and the sub scanning as a feed operation for a recording medium. SOLUTION: A reference image a-ref1 extending in a sub scanning direction is formed to a predetermined position on a recording medium when a recording head moves a forward half of the reciprocation. On the other hand, specific images a-F and a-R are formed to predetermined positions on the recording medium which are different from the reference image when the recording head reciprocates in a main scanning direction. Then, the reference image and the images formed at the forward half and rearward half of the reciprocation are read out. An image distance in the main scanning direction of each of the images formed at the forward half and the rearward half of the reciprocation on the recording medium to the reference image is measured (C1, C2). A shift amount of each image record position at the reciprocation time in the main scanning is operated. Record image data is corrected or a record timing to the recording medium is corrected accordingly. |
