PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for filtering dregs, capable of effectively obtaining a sludge with a low liquor content, providing a filtrate having high clarity and using an apparatus having a simple structure, allowing an easy maintenance and check and an inexpensive installation cost by using a caustic mud (calcium carbonate) produced in a chemical recovery process as a precoat agent. SOLUTION: In dehydrating and washing dregs produced in a kraft pulp manufacturing process, a drum type precoat filter 5 is used and dregs are filtered by a precoat layer prepared by filtering caustic mud (calcium protein) formed in a chemical recovery process and forming into a necessary thickness.
