PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear arm structure for automobile that suppresses reduction of distributed load applied to a rear wheel to provide good road-holding performance thereof, and improves the running stability at high speed. SOLUTION: In a rear arm structure for a shaft drive motorcycle, a rear arm is rotatably attached to a vehicle body frame 1 via a pivot shaft 3, a rear wheel 5 is rotatably supported on the rear side of the rear arm 2. The driving force from the engine supported by the vehicle body frame 1 is transmitted to the drive shaft, and therefrom to the rear wheel therefrom via a gear in a gearbox 6. The gearbox 6 is not fixed in the rotational direction around the rear wheel axle so that the reaction force of the driving force does not act on the rear arm 2 directly. Moreover, the gearbox 6 is coupled with rear arm 2 via coupling links 23 and 24. Accordingly, the reaction force of the driving force from the ground acting on the gearbox 6 acts on the direction that the vehicle body frame 1 is pressed downward via the coupling links 23, 24.
