A polarisation controller comprises a first section of polarisation maintaining optical fibre connected to a second section of polarisation maintaining optical fibre. The second section is orientated such that its preferred polarisation mode axes lie at 45 degrees or 135 degrees to those of the first section. The state of polarisation may be controlled by heater elements 10,11,12. Apparatus for rotationally orientating longitudinally aligned optic fibres using a polariser is disclosed. An optic fibre splicer comprises a cleave tool, fusion electrodes and a hinged arm to which the fibre is held in use. |
