WIDE-VIEWING ANGLE LCD DEVICE USING COMPENSATION FILM

PURPOSE: A wide viewing angle liquid crystal display using a compensation film is to secure a high contrast ratio, an extended viewing angle and an excellent gray scale display performance using a vertical aligned twisted nematic(VATN) liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION: A vertical aligned liquid crystal cell(50) into which a liquid crystal layer having negative dielectric anisotropy is injected has the first face and the second face facing oppositely to the first face. A 1a-plate compensation film(20) and a 1c plate compensation film(30) are attached to the first face of the liquid crystal cell. The first polarizing plate(10) is attached on the second face of the liquid crystal cell and the second polarizing plate(11) is attached on either one placed outward the 1a-plate compensation film or the 1c plate compensation film. A direction(or a slow axis) having the highest refraction rate in the 1a-plate compensation film is parallel or normal to a light transmitting axis of an adjacent polarizing plate to the 1a-plate compensation film.
