PURPOSE: Shock absorbing structure in a roof side assembly is provided to protect occupants from a secondary collision by absorbing shock while tearing the notch portions of many holes installed in an inner panel. CONSTITUTION: Shock absorbing structure(10) for a roof side assembly comprises a roof side member(11) and a roof side trim(23). The roof side member consists of an outer panel(13) and an inner panel(15) bonded each other in both sides with a hollow portion in-between. The inner panel has many holes(17) forming a notch portion on the circumference. The roof side trim has many protrusions(25) and many ribs(31). The protrusion is inserted into the hole to combine the inner panel and the roof side trim. In case of a secondary collision, the notch portion is torn caused by external force applied to the protrusion and the inner panel is plastically deformed to absorb shock.
