METHOD FOR IMPROVING DRIVE CREDIBILITY BY HEAD MAPPING

PURPOSE: An improving method of drive reliability is provided to enhance reliability of a drive by performing a head mapping according to a head number order having high head/disk assembling characteristics. CONSTITUTION: Head/disk assembling performance of each drive is tested. Then, head numbers having high head/disk assembling characteristics are recorded on a maintenance cylinder of a disk or on a flash memory of a microcontroller in descending series order. The microcontroller calculates physical head numbers by responding to a command to give addresses thereto from a host computer. The microcontroller changes the physical head numbers based on the logical head numbers on the maintenance cylinder or the flash memory. The logical head numbers are mapped sequentially to the physical head numbers in a head/disk test. Therefore, the head number address is given in an order having high head/disk assembling characteristics.
