The invention relates to a device for assessing postage of mail envelopes, consisting of a tubular foldable single-pieced pre-printed laminar material body (1). Said body has legs (3b) defining a transversal fulcrum line (F) and one or more slots (5, 6, 7) located topwise in an overhang area (4) of said body. The device tilts relative to said fulcrum line when the weight of an envelope (S) inserted into one of said slots exceeds a given threshold. When folded, the device has a wide and flat configuration with rectilinear edges. The device also comprises means (3c) to suddenly tilt the tubular body (2) when said given weight threshold is exceeded, in addition to counterweight means (19a) for facilitating a wider weighting range and precise calibration of the device while the material maintains its size and thickness.
